So what if I told you that in April I shot a wedding in the middle of the forest in front of a waterfall? What if I also told you that there were tree stumps as seating, free flowing champagne, macarons, and a decanter of bourbon? You would probably say no you did not, Ryan. Or you might even say that sounds awesome, why the heck didn’t you blog about it!? Good question, and I’m so excited to finally reveal the outcome of an outdoor stylized shoot at McConnell’s Mills, PA.
Before I talk about the shoot I would just like to say that none of it would be possible without all of the fantastic people credited below. A great shoot starts with a great team, and mine was pretty darn awesome! We knew that we wanted a unique location that encompassed the vastness of the outdoors and the intimacy of a backyard wedding. So with loads of gear (and I mean 20 trips back and forth’s worth) we trekked into the wilderness of Pennsylvania to find a location that had both the character and the intimate feel we were looking for. The hike wasn’t the easiest, but the end result made all of us feel like it was quite worth it. I chose an exterior space because I love outdoor weddings; They always seem to have a lively and visceral feeling that is tough to replicate indoors. The goal was to create a wedding that we would want to attend, and a ceremony and reception in the middle of a forest sounded just about perfect to us.
To achieve the vintage look we set out for, Shayne Souleret, our event planner, brought together antiques, luxury items, and feminine details and blended them with rustic aspects inspired by our surroundings. The culmination of these delicate details, the spontaneous elements in the woods (like a hidden waterfall!), and some great people made this stylized wedding so much fun to shoot and one I would want to attend on any weekend. It took a lot of hard work to put this shoot together, but I am so happy to say that it has been featured on one of the premiere wedding blogs in the country, “Green Wedding Shoes!” Wooohoooo! I hope that everyone looking at this post gains some sort of inspiration, whether it is for their own wedding or just for trying new and exciting things.
